Summer is finally here! What are your plans?
my sister's wedding, vacation with my cousins, lynda's birthday, the drive-in, rhode island beaches, brooklyn friends, snoop dogg concert, quitting my job, going away party at michelle's, moving across the country!
that's all i have...for now!
What's your New Year's resolution for 2009? How did you do with 2008's?
the only resolution i made last year was to join a gym and lose weight and i definitley accomplished that! in january 2008, i was tipping the scales at 178 and now i am back down to 155. i didn't diet or anything like that but i became so much more active and i think thats why i dropped all that weight. i would love to lose 5-10 more pounds but i'm not worried about it. i wish more people would make new resolutions to become more ACTIVE and make healthier choices then to just generally say LOSE WEIGHT. its all about changing your lifestyle and not about crash dieting and exercising until you reach the point of exhaustion or watching the scale religiously. i tried to go to the gym 2-3 times a week and i didn't weigh myself until september! i wasn't freaking out over a number but i did start to feel better which is what really matters.
okay so i'm officially going to make some resolutions for this year because i have a lot of things i want to accomplish in 2009!
- start working out at the gym again (i haven't been since sept!)
- put more money into my savings account for our move...stop spending $ on frivolous things like ebay, clothes, restaurants, going to the movies, groceries that we don't eat.
- help out more at home...take the initiative before my mother or will has to ask me to do something.
- bring lunch to work more...stop going out to eat.
stoplimit my intake of fast food (dude you *know* its impossible to give that shit up entirely!)- no more corn syrup...drink soda only once on weekends. eat more quality food - foods with less then four ingredients in them, more fiber, organic products, and no added stuff like msg, natural flavors, sweeteners, chemicals, etc.
- use products with no parabens in them.
- MOVE TO CALIFORNIA!
- quit my job
- enjoy unemployment for awhile before stressing about being unemployed
- get an awesome new job that doesn't drive me crazy or kill my will to live and pays more then what i make now
- talk more gently to my partner and other family members
- have more patience and understanding with everything and everyone
- buy will a keyboard piano ;-)
- launch my new blog/business (still working on the name of it...)
- go sledding whenever there is snow out
so i just got off the phone with one of the rudest customers/people i've ever spoken to.
basically the nature of my job is to call people and let them know that my boss can't be there and to reschedule. i complain a lot about this aspect of my job but at this point, i'm used to it. pretty much whenever i make an appointment with someone, i know that he will reschedule it. it's gotten to the point where i just tell people that they should find someone else to do the work for them. my boss has three really big projects right now and he really can't be bothered to work for residential customers. (i work for a plumbing & heating company by the way)
so i just called this guy to reschedule and he starts yelling at me because we've already rescheduled him twice. i don't blame him for being upset but at the same time, he knows my boss personally so i don't know why he feels the need to take it out on his secretary.
he starts asking me if it's something he did or something personal. i'm like no, it's not anything personal. this is the nature of the business. he's like, nature of what business? im like, the nature of the PLUMBING business. and hes like, "well, it's the nature of the business to tell someone that they have a 7AM appointment and then have the guy FUCKING wait around for four hours for someone to not show up?" and i'm like, "look, my boss is a very busy guy. he has a lot of projects. it's NOT personal, he does this all the time."
so then he's like, "well, doesn't that make you mad that he does this all the time?" and im like, "it makes me frustrated but this is my job." so he keeps pushing me, saying, "well doesn't that upset you?" and i'm like "not really because i get paid either way. THIS IS MY JOB."
so then i cut to the chase and i'm like, "look, do you want to reschedule for friday or not?" and hes like being all sarcastic being like, "oh yeah, let me schedule an appointment for friday." and i'm like "DO YOU WANT TO RESCHEDULE OR NOT?" and he's still being sarcastic saying, "yeah, why don't i reschedule for friday?", implying that my boss won't show up again.
so then i'm fucking DONE with this bullshit and i go, "LOOK, i don't appreciate you being rude to me, being sarcastic OR SWEARING AT ME. if you have an issue, you need to take it up with my boss. DO YOU WANT TO RESCHEDULE OR NOT?"
finally he agrees to reschedule and just hangs up the phone. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
now i have to wait until my boss gets back from this graduation that he is attending right now so i can tell him what happened and explain my side of the story before this douchebag talks to him. i'm not really worried about getting in trouble or being fired but at the same time, i hope my boss is not pissed at me for losing my temper.
but seriously, i have been in this "business" for almost six years now (i.e. the business of talking to people on the phone and telling them things they do not want to hear) and i have never spoken to someone like that before. i have had occasional phone calls where i just need to cut people off and explain to them that it's not my fault, i just deliver the message and there is nothing that i can personally do. but really, i fucking HATE people who are rude to complete strangers...let alone strangers that are trying to do them a service. whenever i call a business or a service, i am the NICEST person in the world to them, even if i am pissed. because 9 times out of 10, it's NEVER the person's fault who you are talking to on the phone. it's always someone above them who is making the shots so they are in no position of authority to do anything different.
not to mention that i will bend over backwards for a customer if they are nice to me. because for every nice customer, i get thirty dickwads talking to me. literally, if you are nice to someone, they will be nice back. if you are a dick to me, i will NOT be nice to you and i will NOT want to cut corners to help you out because you are making my job and life more difficult.
but seriously, you don't freakin swear at complete strangers. you don't swear at people who you are trying to do business with. you don't swear at someone's secretary when you are actually mad at that person. AND if you are a man, you definitely do NOT swear at women. i don't take that kinda shit from my father so i'm sure as hell not gonna take that shit from YOU!
Edit: okay good. my boss just came back and i told him what happened and he chuckled and commended me for speaking up for myself. good, i was kinda worried that he would be pissed but he could give a crap about this douchebag too. sweeet! no firing for alison today. we also had a great conversation about yelling and angry customers and basically everything that i told that customer was correct. essentially, this IS the nature of the business. and if you want to call another plumber, they will do the same exact thing. it's just a fickle business and you can never predict how long a job is going to take. you could be working on task and all of a sudden you discover an old pipe that has burst. then that adds an hour to the job. shit like that happens all the time.
okay, sorry for the angry rant but i just had to let this all out cause i was shaking from the anger! i'm feeling much better now.
