this week's pick is COUNT DUCKULA!!!!!!!!!! i remember watching this show on nickelodeon when i was staying at my grandma's house for the summer (we didn't have cable at our house). i actually find myself getting into it a lot more now then i did as a child. probably because i was slightly afraid of count duckula as a child!
for those that don't know, count duckula is a parody of count dracula (obviously). according to the show, count duckula actually died several times but he can be returned by performing a mystic ritual, that is only allowed to be performed once a century. blood is needed for the ritual but alas! this count duckula was reincarnated with ketchup - thus making him a vegetarian, instead of a blood sucking duck!
it's a pretty amusing show and apparently it originally aired in the UK, which i was not aware of. oh yes, and apparently count duckula is a spinoff from the show dangermouse (which i have heard of but not actual seen before). i guess count duckula was a recurring villain on dangermouse.
so here's a clip for your viewing pleasure! i've also included the intro to the show in case you're curious.
(oh yes, and for those inquiring minds - "per ardua ad sanguina" means work hard for blood.)
so this week's featured cartoon is the one and only inspector gadget!
i used to watch this show religiously. i loved all the little inventions that came out of inspector gadget's body. and of course, me and the rest of the kiddies would play inspector gadget and constantly shout, "GO GO GADGET [insert object]"! i never watched the movie that came out with matthew broderick though, it seemed kind of cheesy and not as much fun as the cartoon...but i guess it's all good since it spawned another generation who appreciate inspector gadget. i also have a fondness for inspector gadget because we played the theme song in band one year in middle school (i played the trumpet). that was a great year to be in band!
there were a couple things that always annoyed me about the show though. for instance, why is inspector gadget such a fuckwit??? he had so many gadgets and hardly any of them actually helped him. it always seems like those gadgets got him into more trouble. and then inevitably, his niece penny and his dog brain would bail him out of trouble. inspector gadget would be NOTHING without penny. she ALWAYS solved the crime but she never got any credit for it! i think thats what annoyed me the most about the series. it highlighted that penny was just a kid and she was really smart, but she was never rewarded for her help! ahh well, i guess it doesn't matter that much because it was still a good show.
oh yes, and i also enjoyed dr.claw and his deep voice! he was a great villain.
ok, heres an episode for you to enjoy!

so this week's cartoon that is gonna be featured is one of the funniest cartoons EVER made. i figured now is as good a time as ever to highlight the simpsons since the simpsons movie is about to come out this friday. i am pretty excited about seeing this movie. i'm not a big simpsons nerd - you know who i'm talking about - those people that know every single inside joke in the episodes, watch the show every day on fox, and have memorized every possible line from the show. but that doesn't mean that i won't be seeing it a.s.a.p. this weekend!
the thing that excites me the most about this movie is that the simpsons has created a platform to encourage dialogue about the problems that america and the world is facing. they've always been politically aware but they do it in a way that it is not shoved down your throat. what also amazes me about this show is that virtually everyone i know watches it. it's one of those shows that crosses racial, gender, age and any other boundary that you can think of. my gay friends watch it, my black friends watch it - heck, even my parents watch it! i'm really hoping that the movie tackles some serious issues and creates more discussion about the problems we are facing.
i mean, that may sound a little too serious and optimistic - i mean, it IS a cartoon and i definitely expect to laugh my ass off at the movie. but i'm still hoping that they will do what they always do and somehow make the audience actually think.
the promotion for this movie has been insane. there's the 7-11's being turned into quik-e-marts and then there was that whole issue with the gigantic homer chalk drawing. if you head to the main simpsons movie site, you can even create your own simpsons avatar! check mine out...
i thought i would do something different for the cartoon clip this week since most of us have already seen all the simpsons episodes (and of course, fox is a whore and has taken down a lot of the episodes on youtube). instead, i'm just gonna show some clips of the famous simpsons intro! i hope you enjoy it and please, go see the movie and support this amazing show!
evolution intro
"real life" simpsons intro - i love this one because marge is TOTALLY driving my car! VOLVO REPRESENT!!!
every simpsons intro from seasons 7-15! awesomeness!
haven't posted a clip in awhile and if you read my harry potter post, you'll know that i'm busy reading! so it's gonna be short!
unfortch, the cartoon i picked for this week doesn't have ANY full episodes online! total bullshiz but its okay because i luckily found some short clips of the show. EDIT: JUST FOUND A FULL EPISODE! watch it before it gets taken down!!!
the kick-ass show that i am talking about is...DOUG!!!!!!!!!!!! i honestly have not thought about this cartoon in YEARS which is actually surprising to me since it was one of my favorite shows on nickelodeon at the time. apparently it holds the distinction of being the first cartoon on nickelodeon that was named a "nicktoon".
i just watched a clip of the theme song and i can't get that "doododoodooodooo" out of my head! i loved how quirky and awkward doug was and how eccentric and weird his best friend skeeter was...and of course patti mayonaise's southern drawl melted my heart! it was just a really cute, fun and honest cartoon.
so here we go with the clips!
a full episode! yay!!!
SKEETFACE!!!

(so once again, i am slacking on some of my weekly blogs. i would apologize more profusely if i was more convinced that anyone actually cares about the cartoon clip of the week)
so i can't believe i haven't blogged about garfield and friends yet! i used to watch this show all the time when i was younger. will even has most of the episodes on dvd (although i must admit that we don't watch them nearly as often as our justice league dvds). i mean, who doesn't love garfield?!? the sarcastic, lazy, fat cat is hilarious and i still read the comic strip every weekend in the sunday comics. it hasn't changed much at all over the years which i guess is the explanation for its longevity.
i loved the garfield cartoons the most but i still don't quite understand where the u.s acres/orson's farm came from. maybe it's supposed to be jon arbuckle's farm that he grew up on...or maybe they just added it because they needed some filler (the more likely explanation). either way, i never really got into that part of the cartoon. i mostly just tuned in for garfield's sarcasm! (hrm, i just checked out this video and apparently u.s. acres was another comic strip by jim davis)
so anyhoo, here's a couple clips for ya!

omg, i just perused all these episodes of captain planet! it gets me so excited. i remember watching this show and really getting into it. however, i also get kind of angry when i watch this show...i don't get angry at the actual show but at how the world has turned out.
so this show came out in 1990 - thats seventeen years ago, right? even back then, there were numerous resources spouting off information about how to help save the environment. captain planet did stories on pollution, nuclear waste and global warming. i was in elementary school at the time and i remember having actual lectures about how to save the environment. we learned the three R's - REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE! we learned how to save water by making sure your faucet doesn't drip and installing different shower heads (yeah, even in second grade we were learning this). we learned about compost piles, alternative methods of energy - you name it, we learned it. i even remember watching episodes of 3-2-1 Contact before i even started school and they had an episode about landfills and how to reduce the amount of garbage that you produce (this was in the 80s).
okay so SEVENTEEN fucking years later people are acting like recycling and global warming is news to them. where the fuck did america (the world) go wrong? goddamn, it gets me mad. the government can pay for educational funding to teach their kids (me) this stuff but they didn't even read the memos about global warming?!?! or if they did, they didn't give a fuck because they "weren't going to be around when global warming happened," (that's the shit that my parents say to me). it's just such utter nonsense. no one cared or paid attention to ANYTHING except their paychecks...most of the people that COULD have done something back then in terms of legislation are still in office.
sometimes i wish we could lock up the older generations so they aren't allowed to make any more stupid decisions (sorry if i'm having "agism" but y'all are ignorant old folk).
okay, okay, sorry for getting heavy on this post - let's just ignore the troubles of the world for a little longer while we watch some mindless, numbing cartoons. :::::sigh of relief:::::
(uhhh, i never realized that the spirit of earth's name in the show was "gaia". i find that hilarious because for years, i have been saying, "i swear to gaia..." after watching a saturday night live skit with rachel dratch and ana gasteyer as butch lesbians during a skit when joshua jackson hosted. i also realize that this anecdote will mean absolutely nothing to you unless you know me personally or have seen this particular skit before)

so this week's cartoon is kind of a copout but i have stuff to do at work so i gotta make it quick. my boyfriend actually suggested this cartoon since the new fantastic four movie will be coming out soon. i guess it played in a timeslot with the iron man cartoon and it was called the marvel action hour. my boyfriend used to be obsessed with the fantastic four cartoon when he was younger and insists that it is amazing. we're just gonna have to take his word for it!
oh shiz, i just looked at the cast and brian austin green was the voice of the human torch for the first season. awesomeness!!! however, i think this episode is from the second season since i don't recognize his voice.
enjoy my darlings!

i'm sure most of you didn't even know that the new kids on the block had their own cartoon. even during the height of my nktob fascination in 2nd grade, i didn't know it either! that is until my friend sarah showed me some episodes while we were in high school, probably along the same time that joey mcintyre released his solo album and i actually got to meet him at an autograph session. these events, along with the creation of ebay (where i could buy nkotb merchandise), re-sparked my love for nktob.
the cartoon was short lived but it's still entertaining to watch...if only for the fact that the boys have cartoon rat tails! i don't know why the pop star cartoons don't catch on...probably because they are low-budget and not that creative. but i gotta say, i wish the pop star cartoons would continue and then maybe we could see some britney spears or justin timberlake cartoons. i'm actually pretty impressed that the new kids did their own voice work for this. i mean, it's not saying MUCH but still, at least they were involved in some way..
anyways, here's an episode of the new kids on the block cartoon! oh yah, and enjoy jordan knight's message at the beginning, "i just want a girl to love me for who i am." hahaha, oh god...be prepared for the cheese factor...

i apologize for not posting a cartoon clip last week but i got caught up at work, unfortch. so here we go for this week!
i decided to talk about x-men today since i just got this new ps2 game from gamefly titled x-men: legends and it has revived my love for x-men. i really got into the movies but the third one made me so mad so i lost the love for a little while. but now its back thanks to the game!
this animated series was on the fox kids lineup during my childhood. i remember moving to connecticut from maine in 5th grade and was amazed by how many kids in my class were obsessed with this show. the boys, and even some girls, all collected the x-men cards and would sit during recess and trade cards. if you didn't know about x-men then you were pretty much a loser at my school (which is probably why i didn't have that many friends that year since i decided to collect muppet cards instead).
but anyways, i really wished i had watched this show while it was on instead of watching saved by the bell and the brady bunch re-runs every day after school. my love for superheroes has pretty much been sparked by my boyfriend so it took me (only) ten years to come around to the x-men...but i'm glad that i did! i am really contemplating on buying the series on dvd cause i know that both my boyfriend and i would love it.
aside from my love for mystique (obvs, it's my vox name!), i really love jean grey a.k.a. the phoenix and wolverine. i'm not sure how they developed their characters on the show though so it will be interesting to re-watch the episodes to find out. they basically ruined jean grey's character in the third x-men movie, along with storm. the dialogue and editing in that movie was so atrocious. but wolverine always pulled through (mostly because hugh jackman is insanely hot, even when he's hairy).
so here's an episode for y'all to enjoy!

i bet some of you probably didn't even know that there was a cartoon based on the popular movies called It's The Ghostbusters. i didn't even get to watch the ghostbuster movies until i was in middle school because my parents wouldn't let us. it's probably a good thing too since i'm still frightened of the pink ooze and that scary guy inside the painting from Ghostbusters 2 and i'm well beyond the age of a child.
so instead i watched this cartoon and loved every minute of it. it was action packed and the ghost slimer was given a bigger role in the cartoon (you can briefly see him ooze by in the movies). also, any cartoon that is based on characters played by dan aykroyd and bill murray is kick ass.
oh shiz, i just looked on imdb and apparently arsenio hall was the voice of winston and dave coulier was the voice of dr.venkman for a bunch of episodes...totally random and weird! but i guess arsenio had to pay the bills somehow after his show was canceled.
aight, so here's the clips! enjoy!
(p.s. i also have to point out that egon's rat tail is mind blowing)
