my boyfriend and i are embarking on our journey westward tomorrow! we are moving to oakland, california and we should be there by the end of the month. i have just spent the last four days saying goodbye to practically every person that is dear to me. it has been very sad and i am emotionally exhausted and overwhelmed. i knew it was going to be hard to leave but i didn't know it would be this hard.
i never thought i would miss this place so much. it's really not about the place you are - it's about the people that are with you. i'm going to miss so many people and i appreciate everyone so much for being in my life. i feel so blessed to count so many amazing people that are close to me. i love you all so much, i can't even type because i can't see through my tears.
i never thought this day would come ;-( i am excited for my journey but pieces of my heart are being left behind.
i won't really have regular access to a computer while i am on the road but i'll try to update when i can! until next time loveys!!!
after my sister's wedding, we just walked down to my boyfriend's "fraternity" Cleo (it's technically a literary society, not a frat) and had the after party there! we had a massive dance party and it was the best party OF MY LIFE! i had most of my best friends and all my family there, what more could a girl ask for? i didn't get back to my hotel room until 5AM that night because i was the designated driver and made sure everyone got home safely. it was all worth it though because it was such a fantastic night and i am so thankful that we had a great place to continue the party! thanks again cleos!!!

my sister brianne got married to her girlfriend yami back on june 27th. it was simultaneously the most stressful and also the most joyful day i have EVER had! there was a lot of rushing around and making sure everything was ready for the wedding. i spent three days before the wedding baking and decorating cakes (along with taking a cake decorating class in march & april and preparing frosting flowers weeks ahead). i was so freaked out that i was going to ruin their wedding cake!! luckily everyone pitched it and i am sooo grateful to everyone that helped out! i thought my mom and me were going to have to singlehandedly put on this wedding and i am so relieved and also surprised at just how many people it took to put on this wedding!
it was supposed to thunderstorm that whole day so we were nervous about where we would hold the wedding. after setting up all the chairs, my cousin keith had the final word and said FUCK IT - we're having it outside! i kept joking that if God made it rain then it means He hates gay marriage. we could hear the thunder in the distance as they were married but it NEVER rained that entire day and night! so THERE - that means that God DOES love gay marriage!
their ceremony was so touching and so personal and i felt so honored to stand beside my sister and yami as they made their union together. it was the most beautiful wedding and it was THE best night of my life!

figured i should write a quick update on whats been going on in my life!
will and i are planning to move out to oakland at the end of august/beginning of september. we will have approximately $17,000 saved by then so i'm hoping that is a big enough cushion for us to get back on our feet. people have been saying it will take around six months to find a job in our fields so that should keep us going for at least six months unemployment. i'm hoping it doesn't take that long to find a job though...i have not been without a job since high school so it is an adventure that i am both really looking forward to but also dreading! i just don't like having that much uncertainity in my life.
the plan is to ship most of our things to oakland where they can stay in storage until we find our apartment. and then the other stuff will be coming with us when we drive across america! we are stopping in d.c. for a couple days to visit will's mom and then going to west virginia to visit will's dad. we will probably drive through the dakotas but i am hoping to stop in oklahoma to maybe visit my cousin and his wife. we really don't have a set plan yet - it's really all up in the air at this point!
in other news, my eldest sister brianne is getting married to her girlfriend in six days! my mom and i are making her wedding cake so i have been up to my elbows in frosting these past few weeks. i am looking forward to seeing my family and friends but i am NOT looking forward to actually making these cakes! my mom is insisting on baking them from scratch but i fear that they will not rise or break apart and we might have to just buy a bunch of cake mixes! luckily will's mom (who is a caterer) is coming up on friday so she will thankfully be able to help us out with the preparation. other then that, i am just praying that it doesn't rain on saturday!
i am mostly looking forward to seeing my aunt sherri and my cousins jenny and kathleen who live in seattle. i have not seen them since i was in 8th grade - that was almost 13 years ago!!! we keep in touch on myspace but it will be so much better to see them in person. and of course, i am SOOOO excited that my best friend sal is coming up from florida for the wedding. he has not been back to connecticut since he moved almost six years ago. he is doing everyone's hair for the wedding and i know we are all gonna look fantastic after he's finished with us!
the only thing that i am truly worried about though is my health! i have had a nasty cough for the past two weeks that doesn't seem to be getting any better. i'm going to see the doctor's this afternoon and i am PRAYING that they give me some actual drugs instead of telling me to "treat the symptons" with cough drops and sudafed. i don't want to be wheezing through the ceremony or on the dance floor!
hope all you voxers are doing well and loving life!
okay so i am finally getting around to writing about my new years celebration!
luckily both will and i got let out of work early on wednesday and but it still didn't save us from the snowstorm we had to drive through in order to reach my sister brianne's place in somerville, right outside of boston. the snow was coming down hard and the roads were crazy but we made it to their place safe and sound and it only took us about a half hour longer to get there.
the original plan was to chill at brianne and yami's place and then go to their friend's studio apartment where we could see the fireworks go off right outside their windows. since it was snowing so hard, we knew the fireworks were going to be canceled. plan b was to go out and do first night boston stuff but that idea was nixed because it was TEN DEGREES OUTSIDE and the wind chill was zero degrees - it was fucking COLD! at the very last minute, brianne called johnny d's, a restaurant/club about ten minutes down the street and they had a table open for the night right next to the stage but we had to get there by 7:30PM or the guy was gonna give our table away. it was 7:20PM when she called.
we booked it as fast as we could down the street, i seriously ran because it was so darn cold out...and lo and behold! i discover that i left my wallet at my sister's apt. with all the rush of getting ready to go, i totally forgot to bring it! the bouncer made me walk all the way back to my sister's place to get my ID. granted, i don't really look my age but i don't look THAT young (who am i kidding? i get carded when i buy lighters). remember - it is TEN DEGREES OUTSIDE! i was soooo pissed! also, there was a $22 cover charge which i was not down with but i guess it *was* new years.
luckily though, that was the only bad thing that happened that night! we had great food, drinks and this awesome disco cover band called booty vortex played some groovy tunes to dance to! and it was boss to have a table right next to the band because we could sit down when we wanted to. and they had allllll these new year's hats and party favors to give out so everyone in the crowd was really into the swing of things!

here are some shots taking during the snow storm a few weeks back. the snow started falling on dec 19th and both will and i were let out of work early around 1PM. it was such a great treat for a friday! these first pictures are us walking around the campus during the snowstorm about seven hours after the snow began to fall.

my mom found all these christmas photos and i wanted to upload some of them from when my family visited the north pole (as in north pole, alaska!). we used to visit there every christmas (and sometimes not on christmas) when we lived in alaska. i couldn't find any pics of me so my cute sisters will have to suffice
my parents def must have gone in the off season since there is no sign of snow!

i had my birthday this past weekend. i turned twenty-five on the 16th...and am now officially a quarter century year old. i must admit, i do feel old. i'm only five years away from the big 3-0 and i'm fucking terrified. i take comfort in the fact that i still get carded for buying lighters so i guess that means i don't look old. i don't want to be one of those people that refuses to age...ya know, like those ladies that go to the club with their daughters. but at the same time, it makes me sad that i will no longer be associated with youthfulness. the new generation is taking over and i'm no longer a part of that culture. i definitley need an attitude adjustment about age because i don't want to have a freak out when i find my first grey hair or wrinkle. and i definitley don't want to start getting botox any time soon. oh well, maybe one gets better about aging as they age.
ANYWAYS...i didn't want to make a big deal out of my birthday like i do every year so i had my sister and her girlfriend come down for a long overdue visit and ended up getting a hotel at the Hartford Hilton with the boyfriend. then my mom cooked me a great big ol' birthday dinner on sunday. here are some pictures from this weekend:
my sister thrashing

by far, the best part of our trip was spent on the tiny island, la isla grande. it is probably the most beautiful place i have ever been (alaska doesn't count any more for me since i don't remember much). yami's grandfather owned a summer home on the island for many years. he was one of the first people who got the grand idea that it would make an amazing vacation spot. so he turned his summer home into the villa del sueno - and the rest is history!
i feel incredibly fortunate to be friends with yami. when we first got there, i kept telling everyone that the landscape seemed fake to me. it was just so incredibly beautiful there that i could not believe that little ol' me could witness such a extraordinary place. it felt like we were in the middle of a pirates of the caribbean movie! the villa del sueno is amazing and in my opinion, is the BEST place to stay on the isla grande. there is a hotel at the other end of the island but it does not have the same character that the villa del sueno has.
another view - it has its own restaurant where we ate every day
the view of the villa from our room
the same view, except with a flood! it started POURING the night we got there.
in the path between the rooms - completed covered in water
...and some more rain! everyone in panama was shocked by all the rain because it is the start of the summer there - NOT the rainy season. everyone from the bellhop to our taxi driver to the people on the isla grande blamed it on climate change.
our room at the villa...notice the mosquito net! i should've used it cause i have 20+ bug bites
we took to watching the crabs come out at night - this is right in front of our room
and the froggies came out!
one of my fav places to be on the island
will lounging with the villa's dog - princesa
the ol' hammock trick!!
swimming in the caribbean sea for the first time
will jumping off the dock at the surfer's spot
me and will jumping off the dock together (we would later get stung by a jellyfish near this dock!)

snorkeling while we wait for our food from the villa
the villa's restaurant tables RIGHT near the water! this is truly paradise!
me and the shrine
the shrine was built by a man that lived on the isla grande. his son was in a terrible car accident. he prayed to Cristo Negro and said that if his son lived then he would erect a monument in his honor. his son lived :-)
hibiscus flowers right outside our room
on the boat, about to leave the isla :-(
adios, villa del sueno!
until next time!
